Kusudama “Mitsuya Kiriko”

(Repost from Atelier Ilyere)

I bought this book a year ago by Tomoko Fuse (布施 知子) called “Kusudama Origami – Hanakiriko” (くす玉おりがみ – 花切子). I can read what the Japanese says, but I don’t know what it means! Fortunately, the book uses diagrams rather than explanations to construct models, hence why I bought it. Some of the models are pretty impressive, and recently I managed to make some of the models.

This model is called “Mitsuya Kiriko” (三ツ矢切子) – Again, I don’t know if that translates to anything, so I just to the translated reading of the phrase. It uses six square pieces with eight triangular connectors to form the model. Cutting is definitely involved as you need both square and triangular pieces, however glue is optional. Personally I use glue to make it more secure.

P1010456I had two leftover pieces of the pattern chiyogami left, so I made Yoshizawa butterflies out of them (the v2 version) and made them hang off the coloured twine, with matching coloured beads.

P1010457I love how amazing it looks when the entire thing is done. It makes a lovely decoration to hang off a door handle or something.

P1010455Materials: Eight 7.5cm chiyogami squares, eight 7.5cm duo-coloured paper triangles, coloured twine, coloured beads, PVA glue

Mini-Origami Butterfly in Resin

I think this mini origami mania has gotten to me bad … but I love it!

Here is a Blue Morph Butterfly trapped in resin.

This is my first try with resin and paper and it went well. The paper didn’t singe but I didn’t anchor it well and it moved a bit. Better luck next time I guess.

Valentine’s Day – Mini Origami and Origami+Kirigami card

Valentine’s Day is almost here!

For it I have prepared a special Origami. What is it? Well … what can be expressed as love? Blooming flowers? the feeling of butterflies in your belly? A red heart? A red stone of passion?

How about all that and miniature size! This little bottle contains blooming flowers to symbolize beauty, a butterfly to symbolize freedom, a heart to symbolize love and a blood red stone for passion. All of these with a dash of patience and devotion!

As a bonus I also made a Card. A bit of Kirigami combines with Origami hearts and a cute drawing.

I hope you guys like it!

2 – Butterfly tutorial

3 – Heart tutorial

  • Kirigami Card:

1 – Instructions and material

  • For the drawing I used a photo of the internet (it says that it’s made by The Kawaii Neko) but I changed it a bit.

Origami Fall Challenge – 13

Origami Fall Challenge – 13

29.09.2012

“Butterfly” – a little “cute” butterfly. I don’t really like this one, the diagram was drawn by rats I think … really messy and no explanations!
Well I still hope you guys like it. I tried to color it a bit so that it would make it a bit less ugly.
